Rainmaker Gets Emmy Nomination for Stargate: Atlantis
For VFX work on Sci-Fi Channel's 2004 pilot episode

Rainmaker has received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series for its work on the Sci-Fi Channel’s 2004 television season pilot Stargate: Atlantis “The Rising.” The visual effects for the pilot and most of the 20 episodes for season one were handled entirely at Rainmaker.
While the Rainmaker team delivered motion-picture-worthy visual effects for the Stargate: Atlantis series throughout the season, it is in the pilot that the foundation is laid for the show’s stage – an entirely CG created world. “This pilot was Rainmaker’s largest 3D build of any asset we’ve ever done for the Stargate franchises,” asserts Bruce Woloshyn, Digital Effects Supervisor on Rising. “Many of the scenes you see in the Atlantis pilot – aside from the actors – are completely artificial but appear real. One of the most compelling of these scenes is the lost city of Atlantis rising out of the ocean.”
Brian Moylan, head of visual effects at Rainmaker, affirms that developing the show’s architecture was a complex and arduous process: “It’s gratifying to see our artists recognized for their inspired work and dedication with this Emmy nomination. Creating CGI environments to mimic real life – especially those involving water – is highly detailed and demanding work. It’s a further challenge to meet television schedules while providing these types of film calibre effects.”
The Stargate franchise captured two out of five ATAS nods, with a second nomination for SG-1: “The Reckoning- Part 2,” for which Rainmaker also provided a portion of the effects and post production work. The body of work Rainmaker produced in Rising, was overseen by Visual Effects Producer, Michelle Comens, Visual Effects Supervisor, John Gajdecki and Digital Effects Supervisor Bruce Woloshyn. Also nominated for the award are Lead Visual Effects Animators: Wes Sargent, Dan Mayer and Jose Burgos, and Lead Visual Effects Compositors: Debora Dunphy and Chris Doll.
Rainmaker is again providing visual effects for Stargate: Atlantis season two and for the ninth season of Stargate SG-1, with Bruce Woloshyn returning as Digital Effects Supervisor and Naomi Stopa serving as Rainmaker’s Visual Effects Producer.
