New Fan Fiction Archive

New Fan Fic archive devoted to Drs McKay & Weir is now open and accepting submissions. It’s still under construction and working out a few bugs (like having toreselect categories after previewing- is the main one) and a defaultskin still but basically working and in need of content.

The archive is in need of not just shippy fic but friendship fic orindeed anything with a fair amount of both the characters or interaction between the two. So, basically anyone who has any fic thatwould fit this need, please submit them. The system is mostly the same as Wraithbait, with validation at first, slight differences to thearchive are because it's the latest version and has extra usefulfeatures, including a challenge facility!

Feel free to pass the link and message on to anywhere you think people might have suitable works, and thank you in advance to anyone who adds to the archive. :)

NEW! Joe Flanigan Interview

EXCERPT:

UGO: In Season Three, where would you like to see Sheppard go as a character?
JOE: I'd like to see him face a little more personal adversity. I think that would be interesting and probably bring up more backstory. Now that we're into a third season, we'll have the opportunity to explore the characters' backstories a little bit more, but I wouldn't want to get too much into that. I like to be forward looking and I like to keep things in the hard and real. I like to keep plotlines moving forward and the place that we're at, as opposed to going back too deeply into personal lives.

The Isis Awards are almost upon us.

It's that time of year again! Time for the SG-1 and (for the first time) Atlantis Secondary ship awards - the Isis Awards.

Many of you may remember our awards from last year. Well, this year we're (hopefully) going to be bigger and better, now that we've added the Atlantis secondary ships to the award.

As with last year, this award excludes the primary ship for each show, which we have determined is Sam/Jack for SG-1 and Sheppard/Weir for Atlantis. (I realize some may disagree with the decision to exclude Sheppard/Weir, but as it seems to be the most prevalent het pairing in Atlantis fandom, we're considering it the primary Atlantis ship for now regardless of where canon goes.) This award is to give the authors who write for pairings with lesser followings a chance for their day in the sun.

Editorial Note: Now here’s my feeling on this - Why exclude anybody? I think that the story should win on its own merit and not on weather it’s considered primary or secondary. Also, why would other ships be considered secondary. There is nothing in official show plotline, real or otherwise that says anybody’s ship is more real than any other.

The site has been moved from last year, so please follow this link to reach the new site - http://isis.worldstowander.com/

Nominations open on January 1, and will remain open for two weeks. Please read the rules before nominating, as we have altered them slightly from last year.

I hope this year's awards go smoothly, and that everybody has a good time nominating, reading, and voting for their favourite fan fictions. Thanks to everybody who participates!

Rainbow Rainbow Sun Francks: This Space For Rent

Rainbow Sun Francks: End of Year

As the year terminates, perhaps it’s better to look forward with a smile. On New Year’s Eve (Saturday [December 31]), the Comedy Network tries to help with four back-to-back episodes of Stella, from 8 to 10 p.m. Touted by the CBC as an “offbeat new comedy”, This Space for Rent misses a few beats here and there.

But despite its self-consciously slacker mindset, the series, premiering next Wednesday (January 4) at 9 p.m., has its heart in the right place. Set in a fictional loft across from the Save-On-Meat store in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, it stars Dov Tiefenbach (The Delicate Art of Parking) as life-stalled 20-something writer Lucky Carroway, in what amounts to a funkier Robson Arms by way of Paul Mazurzky’s Next Stop, Greenwich Village.

The series’ pilot episode, where we meet Lucky and his pals—played by Rainbow Sun Francks, Emily Hampshire, Kea Wong, and Jason Bryden—felt bumpy, even annoying, in places, and some of its characters seemed more like character studies. With a bit of retooling, however, the show—which features hip scene-break music from the Ladies and Gentlemen and the New Pornographers (the latter appear at a rooftop party in the premiere) might become something very cool indeed.

Vancouverites will either cringe or smile with recognition at such local references as the Save-On neon pig, to whom Lucky confesses nightly, and the fact that his literary nemesis is the author of a book with the Douglas Coupland–esque title Plate. Glass.City

David Hewlett is interviewed at GATEWORLD

David Hewlett is interviewed at Gateworld

EXCERPT:

GW: A lot of people are thinking that you must be the biggest request for conventions and we're wondering why you haven't shown up at so many, besides a little incident in London with one particular fan.

DH: One particular fan? When was that?

GW: We were talking with Rachel and she said ...

DH: Oh, God, did she tell you that? Oh, horrible woman. Horrible Rachel! I'm never telling Rachel anything ever again!Rachel is so lovely, isn't she? She's so sweet. I feel like I've not only been provided with a job and a life. I've been provided with entire friends as well. "Here's the social scene, too! You can all hang out! You're going to get along with these people fine!" Yeah -- no, I do.I get very uncomfortable with the economics of them. It feels very strange to me that money changes hands for autographs and that kind of stuff. I understand the need for it. It just makes me uncomfortable and I'm not saying that -- obviously we get paid for what we do and that's great, obviously it helps. So it's that. It's also just time. Unfortunately, there's a convention in Vancouver this weekend and I'd love to be there, but I haven't seen my girlfriend in three weeks and I have so many lines to learn for next week.

Major Update Of Stargate Avatars

Interview with Torri Higginson

Interview with Torri Higginson at Gateworld

EXCERPTS:

GW: You have obviously been shooting Season Two for some time now. What do you especially like about this year?

TH: That David Hewlett is in a dressing room farther away from me.

*****************

GW: What are your favorite character dynamics to explore? [Such as] Kavanah or McKay or Zelenka?

TH: Well, I have to say Zelenka because he's sitting right here. [David Nykl laughs] Zelenka is my favorite. I find that just now he's really rich and layered. He's such a talented actor! Best scenes ever! And they're very hot! There's something underlying going on. I don't know. But obviously I do like these scenes with Zelenka a lot. Because there's a camaraderie against McKay. We both like McKay and respect McKay hugely ... but also know what an arrogant know-it-all he can be. There's that shared frustration, which can't be voiced because McKay is usually right.I always love the Sheppard stuff because there's always that, again, that level of respect but conflict, and desire to be supportive of each other but still fighting for your agenda and still fighting for your own power. There is that power play that will always exist between Sheppard and Weir, I think.

Stargates go on....

EXCERPT:

Now in its ninth season, "Stargate SG-1" continues to get better and better. Ben Browder, best known as John Cricthon from Farscape, joins the cast as Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, the new leader of SG-1. Claudia Black, who played Aeryn, Critchon's love interest, is also on the show. In a recurring role as Vala, a con artist, her and Michael Shanks have great comic chemistry.

Respected actors Beau Bridges and Louis Gossett, Jr. are also on board. Bridges is Gen. Hank Landry, the new head of Stargate Command. Gossett is Gerak, a Goauld at odds with Teal'c over the Jaffa government.

In its sophomore season, "Atlantis" continues to get better also. Rainbow Sun Francks, who was Lt. Aiden Ford, was on recurring status. He was replaced by Jason Momoa as Ronon, a skilled fighter who is also a Wraith tracker. Best known as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner on "The X-Files," Mitch Pileggi has a recurring role as Col. Caldwell, who is in charge of the Daedulus, and always clashes with the Atlantis team.

New episodes for both shows will return next winter. "Atlantis" is already renewed for season three, while "SG-1" will return for season ten. This will make "Stargate SG-1" the longest-running science fiction series in television history, second to "The X-Files." Seasons 1-8 are out on DVD, while season one of "Atlantis" will be out this month. Or, if you can't get enough, then watch "Stargate SG-1" every weekday on the SciFi Channel from the beginning, or catch last season every weekend, the same time you can catch "Stargate Atlantis" freshman season.
