Grace Under Pressure spoilers I can't explain enough
Grace Under Pressure spoilers
I can't explain enough how much I loved this ep. I had seen the SG-1 ep "Grace", which was the same idea except that Sam was trapped alone on the Prometheous with a head injury and was seeing different people, but this was actually much better. Rodney and AF pilot Griffen crash in the ocean during a test flight of a newly repaired puddlejumper. And the PJ sinks like a stone. EEEP! Rodney with a serious head injury wakes first and its been nearly an hour since they crashed, and they are still sinking. Zelenka is relieved to hear them respond and Rodney says they could both use an extended stay in the infirmery. At just under 1200ft below the surface the PJ's window begins to crack from the pressure. They move swiftly to the rear section only to have the controls for the rear compartment not work. Griffen runs back to the front and with a "Good luck, Rodney" seals the rear compartment with McKay inside. From Rodneys perspective you see him calling to Griffen and hear the window break. "Why would he do that? Why did you do that!!!" Mckay shouts as he realizes that Griffen sacrificed himself to save Rodney. That poor man has got to have some serious survivor's guilt issues. Honestly, look at all the death he has witnessed in the last year and a half. Abrams and Gall, the members of his team in Hotzone, the scientist in Trinity, Lindstrom from Intruder. I hope he is seeing Hieghtmier for this. Rodney battles his claustophobia, and searches for a way to save himself, suffers first from hypoxia, which he recognizes and had to fix the CO2 scrubbers. Sam arrives as a halucination brought on by fear, loneliness, and his head injury. The great thing is he knows he is seeing things, but that doesn't stop him from interacting with her. She is a visual representation of his own subconsious. They filmed this only a couple weeks after Amanda Tapping had given birth to her first child, and I have to say she looks great. Rodney's plan is to fire up the drivepods and try to make the pod resurface so that the rescue team can find him. He honestly doesn't think that anyone will be able to find him. He tells sam his plan, and she doesn't like it. Tells him to trust in his team, they will rescue him. He doesn't trust his fellow scientists. We learn he was in the PJ because Radek is affair to fly and asked Rodney to take the PJ on the test flight. Meanwhile Sheppard is working on a plan to rescue Rodney combinding things from all over the place into a magnetic grapple to grap the jumper and raise it close enough to the surface to allow for rescue divers to get to him. Zelenka is working on finding the PJ because they lost the radio signal when the window collapsed. BTW Radek is really cute in a labcoat. When they finally narrow the search to a few squard miles rather than hundreds of miles, Sheppard is pleased. The depth is too great for the PJ to go, but John suggests they turn the cloak into a shield, the same way they turned the city shield into a cloak. Radek is reluctant to go, stating he can't swim. Wier is diplomatic with him saying she won't order him to go, to which John replies "I will!" One of the best Rodney lines: "I need to be the one trying to save the poor bastard, not being the poor bastard stuck down here." Weir to Sheppard: "You and Rodney have been bugging me for months to try the puddlejumpers as a submersable. You went a hell of a long way to get me to say yes." Sheppard: "You having said it yet." Weir: "I just did" Sheppard: **smile**( bounce bounce, skip-hop, run ) The idea that John and Rodney together bugging, begging, pleading, to Weir to allow them to try out a puddlejumper as a submercible is the cutest thing ever. The PJ hits bottom and Rodney is happy, but Sam is not. He yells at her for taking away the one piece of good news he had, until he notices that the comparment is now taking on water slowly. Rodney gets ready to save himself and Sam tries to distract him by attempting to seduce him. It almost works, but he pushes her away and starts the drivepods. The power comes on briefly but it shuts down again, leaving only 30 minutes of power left. John and Radek in the PJ find the missing PJ by investigating a large sea creature that is circling one area. They extend the shield so that they can open the hatch and walk over the the other one. Rodney is nearly unconscious from hypothermia, and doesn't know what is real anymore when he hears John on the radio. He opens the rear hatch and the water rushes out. John and Radek run in and check him. Asking were Griffen is. Rodney points to the control area of the jumper. "He was in there." Need I say it again, *serious surivors guilt*. As they carry Rodney to their puddlejumper the whale swims over head. It is beautiful and alien, a lot like a humpback, but a lot bigger and with a different tail than that of a Earth whale. As they get ready to leave, rodney says, "I knew you would find me... at least subconsciously." He stands as the hatch closes and sees Sam standing in the recked jumper, she smile at him and waves goodbye. The end. What I really loved about the interaction between Rodney and Sam was when he asks why they never hooked up. "Because you're petty, arrogant, and treat people badly." Sam replies. "Aside from that." Rodney says. "No, thats it, petty, arrogant, bad with people." Rodney has a moment then with a hopeful slightly leacherous look he replies. "But you do find me attractive, phyiscally?" Its so sad and cute, you either want to smack him or hug him or both. I think it is safe to say that as far as "Trinity" is concerned things are back to being close to where they were. Next ep. The Tower. AKA someone was reading Bad!fic and decided to make an ep out of it.
