TORRI HIGGINSON has been an actress for more than 15 years, but never
encountered such extreme fans as she has gained playing Dr. Elizabeth Weir on
Stargate Atlantis. "The sci-fi fans are a breed unto themselves," she says. "At our first convention, our show had only been on-air for one episode and t here were thousands of people who showed up. They were bringing us things that they had made and our faces were on lunchboxes... I've even been given paintings of me and of my dog - how they got these pictures of her, I don't know. It's really intense." Higginson hasn't always been a fan of these large gatherings. "I was hesitant about doing conventions. I found it very strange at first, but after doing a few, I now find it's beautiful. It's a real exchange. It's nice to heartheir opinions of the show and of our character. It's also a chance to say thank you to these people. Without them, we wouldn't have a show."
